Camera skills – more than just a snapshot
Two day course
Learn how to get the most out of your camera. The first day will be spent ‘on location’, returning to process your shots in the Print Studio. Day two will be devoted to printing and analysing the results. Bring: your camera and Ilford FP4 black and white film.
Prints and Drawing Forum

A discussion group led by Robert Jackson and guest artists, where you can compare notes, look at each others portfolios and get advice on current directions for painting drawing and prints.
Andy Warhol Class
One day course
Learn how to create your own prints using the simple screen print process that Warhol used to make his famous portraits of ‘Marilyn’, ‘Elvis’, ‘Liz’ and ‘Jackie’. Bring your favourite pop-idol or family photo to work from.
Japanese Calligraphy
One day class
Campbell Sandilands will share his personal approach to traditional and creative calligraphy and philosophy. Including an ink grinding ceremony and intuitive Japanese brushwork: painting an Ichi-en-so, a Zen circle, which reflects ones state of mind.
New approaches to Collagraphy plus Printing on canvas or fabric
Specialist Sebastien Marciak will show how combining the techniques of soft ground, monotype, and the Goetz carborundum process, creates surprising textures, easily and quickly. Use PVA glue to print any kind of etching on canvas/fabric without a press. The advantages are that you're able to work at home with fewer materials and you're not limited by the bed size of the press.

Bookbinding from Tokyo to Timbuktu
Two day course
Learn to make a selection of unusual yet simple books based on ancient bookbinding traditions that span two continents from Asia to Africa.
Japanese Woodblock Printing
Two day course
Campbell Sandilands will teach the techniques of Japanese printing. Learn how to cut blocks and print in colour using traditional Japanese tools, papers and ink.
Photo-Intaglio (Etching)
Two day Course
Learn how to use modern photo-sensitive polymers and emulsion to transfer imagery into intaglio. Photographic, digital or hand drawn imagery can be used and combined with traditional etching techniques for stunning effects. Knowledge of basic etching processes essential.
Shadowgraphs
One day course
Masterclass in this fascinating early technique, which does not need a camera, but uses actual objects and light to make direct ‘photogram’ images with a rich three-dimensional quality.
Babs Robertson Lino Printing
Three day course
Babs Robertson renowned for her mastery of the medium of linocut prints. She will guide you through the methods she uses to achieve such exceptional results.
Print care – archival mounting
Two day class
Learn from a conservation expert how your prints should be mounted to keep them pristine, show them at their best and preserve their value. Bring a small(up to A4) print to work with
Monoprint and drypoint
Two day class
Explore a range of painterly techniques in relief and intaglio printing. The processes covered are ideal for translating ideas or rough sketches into more resolved images, either as finished works or for further development.

Screenprinting (Beginners)
Three week course
Learn from scratch how to explore the creative possibilities of this colourful, graphic and immediate approach to making repeat prints, popularised by Warhol.
Papermaking
Three week course
Learn to make delicate, colourful, hand-made papers from pulps.
Etching Stage 1
Six week course
Learn how to create beautiful, traditional prints using metal plates with acids to produce finely drawn and richly textured images. (No experience necessary)
Black And White Photography (Beginners)
Four week course
Learn how to process your black and white film, make contact sheets and explore black and white printing. Bring an exposed Ilford FP4 film with you and find out how easy it can be.
Screen Printing (Intermediate)
Four week course
Move on to develop your skills, using photographic techniques and power-assisted screen printing tables. (For those who have completed stage 1 or similar)
Bookbinding
Six week course
Learn a range of bookbinding techniques to create beautiful, professionally finished books and pamphlets using only the simplest of hand-tools. You may want to create a special gift or album. Individual projects catered for.
Etching stage 2 – Intermediate
Six week course
Explore a variety of exciting etching techniques such as sugar lifts and chine-collé, multi-plate and viscosity printing to create vibrant, colourful, embossed etchings. Follow on class from Etching stage 1.
Instant Lithography
Three week course
An easy introduction to modern methods. Learn to use polyester and silicon lithography plates, combining photographic, digital and hand drawn imagery. Experienced lithographers may find these new techniques liberating.

Introduction to Adobe Photoshop (Mac or PC)
Two day course
Photoshop made easy. Learn to explore and start using the wide range of possibilities for creating images, enhancing photos or designing artwork offered by this professional level digital programme.
Discover Adobe Flash: for Illustration, Animation & Web Design
Two day course
The perfect follow-on to Create your First Website course; covers all essentials required to create Flash content for insertion into web. Also suitable for those with no prior web experience but wish to use Flash for illustration or animation. Learn to use Flash vector drawing tools, timeline and animation toolset.
Meet your Mac!
Two day course
An introduction for complete beginners. Covers the basics to get you started with your Mac – get to know OS X and Mac software, file management, using digital photography and other basic functions.
Meet your Mac Video
A one day course to show you how to get the most out of iMovie and iDVD on your Mac or MacBook
Get off Auto!
Digital Photography
Two day course
Learn your way around your digital camera and gain confidence by going out and about shooting. Course covers different file-formats, plus exposure, mode, white balance and ISO settings as well as features such as Stitch Panorama.
Digital Darkroom (Mac or PC)
Two day course
Learn how to get the most out of your digital photographs, adjust and improve images using computer software, and print beautiful archival inkjet prints on various papers. (If you don’t have a digital camera you can bring photos, negatives or slides to scan)
Video Editing for Beginners using Final Cut Express (Mac)
Two day course
An introduction to digital video-editing using Apple’s Final Cut
Express. Create a short film and learn the basics of capturing video, importing
graphics, stills and music, editing image and audio, using keyframes
and adding filters & effects to make professional-level video projects.
Bring along your own footage (on Mini DV tape) or use material provided.
Computer experience is required.
Intermediate Adobe Photoshop (Mac or PC)
Two day course
Recap on the basics, develop and extend your skills and learn more about layers and masks. Cover any troubleshooting problems you are having.
Video Editing for Beginners using Adobe Premiere (Mac or PC)
Two day course
Create a short film and learn the basics of capturing video, importing
graphics, stills and music, editing image and audio, using keyframes
and adding filters & effects to make professional-level video projects.
Bring along your own footage (on Mini DV tape) or use material provided.
Computer experience is required.
Create your First Website: An introduction to Web Design
Two day course
Learn all you need to create your first HTML website; planning and preparing site content, testing and publishing on the web. Import textual content, create hyperlinks and anchorlinks. Prepare and insert imagery, audio, video and Flash animated content. Create and link to CSS Cascading stylesheets. Create user input forms and add interactivity using behaviours.
Software: Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash.
Introduction to Adobe Illustrator
Two day course
Learn basic tools and techniques such as drawing, colouring, erasing, selection and the differences between vector and bitmap imagery. Areas of interface with Photoshop will also be covered.
