Learning for Schools

A visit to DCA can help you deliver the Curriculum for Excellence. We offer structured activity through workshops or guided tours for 15-18 year olds and professional development opportunities for teachers. We also deliver tailored workshops and activities for nurseries upon request. Aside from our work within DCA we work extensively offsite and are happy to deliver projects and workshops in schools where appropriate. We are aware that the nature of curriculum delivery requires planning well in advance and would be delighted to talk and work through possible opportunities that work to your schools particular timetable. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Continued Professional development for teachers
We offer sessions throughout the year as twilights, half or full days and can respond to your school, cluster and local authority requests. For Moving Image Education CPD and the East of Scotland Moving Image Education Network for Schools please also see our Discovery Film Festival website. Popular school activities include:

• Being a visual detective – the art of looking, asking questions, sharing opinions and deducing intentions and meanings.

• Exhibition tour and workshop. The workshops can range from printmaking skills, collage, sound, sculpture and painting to photography.

• Composition for early years, for even the youngest visitor these workshops support 3 to 5 year olds in looking, recognising and making a joint collage using colour shape and pattern.

• Tailored projects – these are worked up with each exhibItion and each educational institiution. Carried out at DCA or in the school they can range from a one off drop-in session from an artist to cover a particular medium through to a sustained weekly workshop session tailored to an output defined in the curriculum.

• Education screenings - Discovery also organise year-round activities and film screenings for children, young adults and schools at DCA: see the Discovery website for listings.
