Focus on Film: Science Fiction
Sun from 23 September (eight week course)
Cinema
DCA has teamed up with the English and Film Studies Programme at the University of Dundee to offer you a new film education course: Focus on Film. Every autumn and spring, over eight weeks, we will look in depth at a range of topics, including cinema history, genres, styles, directors and actors. Taking place on Sunday mornings (11:00 —13:15) each session will include an introduction, film screening and discussion.
Keep watching the skies! Our first topic is Science Fiction in cinema. This will involve screenings of some masterpieces of the genre, such as 2001, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Starship Troopers, followed by a short lecture and a tutorial group, led by Dr Brian Hoyle and Dr Chris Murray. You'll be able to watch a great sci-fi film, perhaps read the story that inspired it, and discuss your thoughts in a setting that aims to be informative, lively and fun! No advanced knowledge of interstellar rocketry or cybernetic transhumanism is required, but a love of sci-fi (or SF, for the purists!) is a must!
Time: 11:00 - 13:15
Price: £60.00/£40.00
