Behind the Scenes Dundee

Explore some of Dundee’s creative hotspots and catch a glimpse of what makes each of them tick in this new cultural tour. Led by the team at Creative Dundee and organised in partnership with Dundee Contemporary Arts, Behind the Scenes Dundee will take you to four creative locations over the course of a two hour walking tour, with talks, tours and behind the scenes insights at each.

Starting at Dundee Contemporary Arts, you’ll take a tour of the Print Studio, where artists, designers and members of the public can try out creative activities from the ancient (Japanese book-binding and oriental pad-printing) to the modern (3D printing and CNC Laser-cutting), and many techniques in between. From DCA, it’s a short walk to the McManus Galleries, where we’ll be dropping in at one of the busiest times of year for the museum team, as they celebrate the nationwide Festival of Museums.

Dundee’s cultural life extends beyond its public institutions, so for our next stop we’ll be visiting Fleet Collective; a creative co-working space and agency that brings together freelancers, researchers and businesses in a beautiful open working space. We’ll hear from Lyall Bruce about some of the exciting creative work that’s happening under Fleet’s roof.

Then it’s on to Dundee Rep Theatre, home to Dundee Rep Ensemble, Scottish Dance Theatre and Rep Creative Learning, before finishing up back at DCA, where you can explore Mark Wallinger’s exhibition, browse some local design in the Shop or enjoy some refreshments in Jute Café Bar.

Throughout the tour you’ll be able to ask venue teams and the experts at Creative Dundee questions, and find out about all the work that’s going on to make Dundee what GQ called “Britain’s coolest little city”.
