Bring a Baby: Moon Dogs

Philip John

Having worked on a number of acclaimed TV shows such as Downton Abbey and Outlander, director Philip John has turned his attention to the big screen and helmed his first feature film, Moon Dogs. Shot on location between Shetland and Glasgow, this sweet and funny coming of age road movie is akin to Alfonso Cuarón’s Y Tu Mamá También, showing us that love can often be a mixture of sweet infatuation and complete and utter chaos.

When his girlfriend leaves to attend university in Glasgow, Michael (Jack Parry-Jones) fears their high school romance may be ending, so he decides to make a declaration of love, setting out from his remote home on Shetland to win back her affections. But the only way he can afford to get to the big city is if his eccentric stepbrother Thor (Christy O’Donnell) helps him. As the brothers embark on their odyssey they are joined by free spirited Caitlin (Tara Lee) and soon awkward sparks begin to fly between all three of them.

With a string of audience and jury award wins from a number of film festivals from around the world, Moon Dogs is at turns hilarious and moving, with standout performances from Jones and Lee.
