Our new exhibition opens ten years to the day that DCA first opened its doors with the exhibition Prime. The Associates is a survey exhibition charting some of the most talented artists to emerge from Dundee since the late 1990s. All of the artists trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and have gone on to national and international acclaim.
The title of the exhibition is affectionately pinched from the seminal Dundee pop group The Associates who were one of the city's greatest artistic statements. Billy Mackenzie and Alan Rankine burst on the scene thirty years ago with their first single Boys Keep Swinging and we want to celebrate their influence on modern Dundee. This exhibition reveals an 18 carat love affair with Dundee.
The exhibition forms an important component of our tenth anniversary programme. Future highlights include DCA curating Martin Boyce - No Reflections for the Scottish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, a new commission by Thomas Hirschhorn and projects with Ganghut, Susanne Nielsen and Rob Hunter & John Louden.
A publication accompanies the exhibition. Designed by Skratch, Glasgow it is a 44 page booklet using a newsprint paper-stock and features full colour artist pages, an introduction by DCA Exhibitions Curator Graham Domke and letters by many of the exhibiting artists expressing their views on living, studying and making art in Dundee. The publication is available form the DCA shop.
Four of the artists within The Associates exhibition are producing editions
with the DCA Print Studio. Works by Steven Cairns, Katy Dove, Fiona Jardine and
Clare Stephenson will be available later on in the run of the exhibition.
Prints by Scott Myles and The Lonely Piper have been produced previously and

A companion exhibition of work by artists featured in The Associates and some of their contemporaries, drawn from the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design Collection, the Alan Woods Bequest or loaned directly from the artists. This is a great opportunity to compare the artists' more current practice within the DCA exhibition and their work as students in Dundee.
The exhibition runs from 21 March until 13 June at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Opening Times: Mon-Fri 09.30-20.30 Sat 09.30-16.30 for more information on the venue, visit Dundee University exhibitions department website.
