Discovery Film Festival 2012

Discovery Film Festival: Scotland’s International Film Festival for Young Audiences

Sat 20 October - Sun 4 November 2012

Discovery Film Festival is back for its ninth year with another selection of the very best international cinema for young audiences. Over three weekends we’ll be bringing you fantastic animation for wee ones, stories of unlikely friendship, dramatic mysteries and inspiring documentaries. A programme of creative workshops and events runs alongside the films and there are two specially-programmed exhibitions in DCA Galleries.

The festival gets started on Sat 20 October with the Scottish premiere of Alfie the Little Werewolf, a charming story about a boy who goes through an unexpected transformation on his seventh birthday. There’ll be an opening reception with Dutch treats inspired by the film, a chance to look around the exhibitions and a free mask-making workshop.

This year’s exhibitions explore the moving image and the lives of young people, with funny, refreshing and thought-provoking results. If you’ve been inspired by them or any of the films in the programme you can send us a review and be in with a chance of winning one of our new competitions. There’s also another showcase of youth filmmaking in the annual Discovery Youth Screen Awards, and a chance to learn more about the business in our Youth Film Screen Weekend.
