A Place in the Sun (PG)

28 January 2012

Cinema

Winner of six Academy Awards, A Place in the Sun is a gripping drama centring on a love triangle, murder, and the American Dream gone disastrously wrong. It also marks Elizabeth Taylor’s entry to stardom: aged seventeen, Taylor leaves behind her precocious child image, appearing instead as a stunning young woman. Co-starring Montgomery Clift, who was then Hollywood’s hottest male star, and Shelley Winters as ‘the other woman’, A Place in the Sun boasts terrific performances, an impressive score, and superb direction from the great George Stevens.
