Artists' Film and Video: History as an Object ()

29 November 2011

Cinema

An artists’ filmand video screening featuring a cross-section of recent international artists’moving image work. Throughout history, artifacts have been collected and exhibited as records of a time past. History as an Object includes a selection of film and video works that deal in history, the examination of historical facts, and the fallibility of historical narratives. Many artists using the moving image today subvert traditional methods of representation and re-representation, to create new and sometimes fantastic interpretations of previous events; reclassifying objects and events under their own terms. An international cross-section of recent works by artists including including Marwa Arsanios, Kate Davis, Aleksandra Domanovic, Gintaras Didziapetris, Ilja Karilampi, and Shahryar Nashat are included in this screening – many of which will be shown in the UK for the first time. Join us at a reception before the screening. Following the screening there will be a short discussion between artist Kate Davis and curator Steven Cairns.
