Kerstin Stutterheim and Niels Bolbrinker's Bauhaus – Mythos der Moderne is probably the most comprehensive critical appraisal of the artistic and political aims of the Bauhaus portrayed on film. In particular, the numerous informative interviews with former Bauhaus students give insights into the essence of the Bauhaus principles. Accounts are also given of the conflicts that led to the Bauhaus' move from Weimar to Dessau, the closing of the school during the Nazi period, the origin of the "Bauhaus" myth in the United States, and finally, the treatment of the Bauhaus heritage in the GDR.
