Bring a Baby: Chloe (15)

18 March 2010

Cinema

Bring a Baby is chance for parents and carers to catch up on DCA's films. You can bring your buggies and prams into the cinema and we provide changing mats too. Screenings are exclusively for adults with a baby who is 15 months or under. No more than two adults per baby, please. DCA is one of Dundee's most baby friendly places - we welcome breast feeding mothers, can warm up a bottle for you, provide baby changing facilities and we'll even help you park your pram in the cinema.

Although Atom Egoyan is certainly a hard working director, it is rare that we have the opportunity to present two new films by the same filmmaker in successive guides (Adoration screened at DCA in January). With Chloe, Egoyan, although exploring the darker and more dangerous aspects of sexual relationships, also reveals an emotional quality which hasn’t been as obvious in his work since The Sweet Hereafter.

Catherine (the definitely hard-working Julianne Moore) and David (Liam Neeson) have an idyllic marriage and a wonderful life together. She is a doctor, he a university professor, and they have a wonderful teenage son. But when David is late coming home from a business trip, Catherine starts to question their happiness. Desperate to uncover his infidelity, she decides to hire an escort (Amanda Seyfried) to prove her suspicions are genuine. Before long, Catherine has become deeply entangled in the web she has created, and as the relationship between all three characters intensifies, there is no turning back.

Making the most of the city of Toronto’s hotspots, Egoyan sets his characters in a world of hard modern surfaces, glass and mirrors, reflecting the distorted and fractured reality of his characters. Chloe is a sophisticated, sizzling, cautionary tale of what lies beneath the surface of a perfect life.
