Sheffield Doc/Fest brings the international documentary family together to celebrate the art and business of documentary making for five intense days each November. When DCA was offered the chance screen the “Best of the Fest” we jumped at the chance. Proving that truth really is stranger than fiction, this weekend of screenings is a feast for anyone interested in non-fiction filmmaking.
It’s every French pastry chef’s dream to win the coveted blue, white and red collar awarded by the MOF – Meilleur Ouvrier de France or Best Craftsmen. For pastry kings it’s like the Olympics, only harder. And for the first time D A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus are given full access to the hallowed competition following master chef Jacquy Pfeiffer on his journey from the USA to the championships. Along with 15 of France’s best pastry professionals, Jacquy prepares, rolls, cuts, rehearses and sculpts the most divine pastries you will ever see on film. But you cannot let your guard down for a moment. What makes the MOF so revered are the madly meticulous, unflattering, unforgiving and obsessed judges. This is a recipe for high tension, drama and disappointment in the kitchen because only one can be crowned the best by President Sarkozy himself.
A pass to see all the films in the Sheffield Doc/Fest series is only £15.00 (£10.00 conc)
