Giuseppe Verdi’s Ernani, conducted by Marco Armiliato, will star Salvatore Licitra in his first Met performances of the title role. As Elvira, the woman Ernani loves, young American soprano Angela Meade will star in her first Live in HD transmission. Consummate Verdians Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Carlo) and Ferruccio Furlanetto (de Silva) complete the principal cast. Verdi’s early romantic tragedy, a tale of hot-blooded passion adapted from a popular 19th-century stage drama by Victor Hugo, contains some of the composer’s most thrilling arias. Ernani will be seen in Pier Luigi Samaritani’s grandly-scaled production, which features set design by the director, costumes by Peter J. Hall, and lighting design by Gil Wechsler.
