This hour-long programme of two films explores the work of Oskar Schlemmer (1883 – 1943) and the Bauhaus Theatre. Franz Schömbs’ The Triadic Ballet (1970) is a reconstruction of a ballet by Schlemmer, based on the idea of the magic figure three. Costumes, masks and form are modelled on originals but use modern, almost weightless material that gives the strictly geometrical figures a floating grace. Margarete Hasting’s Man and Mask (1968) shows the recreation of Schlemmer's abstract Bauhaus ballet based on choreographic notes and eyewitness reports. The recreation is accompanied by an introduction to the Bauhaus' aesthetic principles and the artistic work of Oskar Schlemmer.
