Scanners (18)

Cinema
As part of the artistic programme at DCA, we enjoy asking the artists exhibiting in the gallery what films they would like to have screened in our cinema to coincide with their exhibition. The selections are sometimes surprising but also consistently illuminating of their practice. During the summer this is reflected with a particularly diverse array of films . . . reflecting three distinct exhibitions and fifteen artists on show.
Selected by John Louden, David Cronenberg’s Scanners is a paranoid classic of mind control. Already famous for body horror films like Shivers, The Brood and Rabid, Cronenberg’s Scanners is a more cerebral and less out and out horror film with Stephen Lack, the late Patrick McGoohan (The Prisoner) and Michael Ironside heading up a cast that also includes Jennifer O’Neill. There are still classic moments within the film that will make your head hurt.
