Cinema

Getting older involves a busy lifestyle of activities and interests, but this generation has always had a love and appreciation for cinema. DCA would like to welcome anyone over the age of 60 to a new club, Senior Citizen Kane Club, where we will show a wide range of specially selected films, both new releases and classics. The film will be introduced and there will be the chance for a chat before and after. Tickets will be £3.20.

While all the bookies were favouring The White Ribbon or A Prophet for this year’s Foreign Language Academy Award, a little known Argentinean thriller walked away with the prize. The Secret In Their Eyes is a rare breed these days – a perfectly constructed whodunit of which even Hitchcock would have been proud. Brimming with tension, passion and pathosas well, this film will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very final moment.

Benjamín Esposito is a criminal-court investigator, tormented by the unsolved rape and murder of a young bride in 1974. Benjamín and Sandoval (the superb Guillermo Francella), his alcoholic partner, work with the victim's husband Ricardo (Pablo Rago) to try and identify the killer. In a thunderously exciting chase scene through a Buenos Aires stadium during a heated soccer match, Benjamín and Sandoval hunt their suspect, only to find him given shelter by the corrupt government of the new Argentina. 25 years later, the retired Benjamín has begun to write a novel about his experience in an effort to resolve his feelings about the case and also for Judge Irene Menéndez Hastings (Soledad Villamil).

The excellent cast is led by the strongly centred Ricardo Darín, The chemistry between him and Villamil is electric, palpable but never spoken. You won't be able to take your own eyes off them, or easily forget this old fashioned thriller.
