Cinema

In recognition of the significance of Angus and the surrounding area in Pictish history, an exciting new film about the mysterious Roman Ninth Legion and the Picts is to be shown two weeks before its general release at DCA, in a special event hosted by Pictavia Visitor Centre. And that’s not all - tickets to this exclusive screening on Saturday April 10 are absolutely free!

Centurion is the exciting new action thriller from Dog Soldiers director Neil Marshall, and is hotly-tipped as the next big British blockbuster. The film follows Quintus Dias, the sole survivor of a savage raid on a Roman frontier fort. He joins General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion to march north and wipe out the terrifying tribes known as the Picts, but when the Legion is attacked, Quintus struggles to survive behind enemy lines. Along with a small band of soldiers, he is caught up in a race to save General Virilus and to evade capture, torture and certain death at the hands of the Picts. Centurion stars Dominic West, perhaps best known as Detective McNulty from HBO’s cult tv show, The Wire; Michael Fassbender from the critically acclaimed Hunger; and Quantum of Solace Bond Girl, Olga Kurylenko.

Tickets to this special screening of Centurion at the DCA are available free by emailing pictavia@angus.gov.uk between 9am on Friday, March 26 and 12 noon on Thursday, April 1. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of two tickets per person. Successful applicants will be notified by email and must be able to collect their tickets from DCA between April 2 and April 9. Please note that Centurion has a 15 certificate and that all attendees must therefore be aged 15 or over.
