Suddenly, Last Summer (15)

29 January 2012

Cinema

Adapted from a play by Tennessee Williams, Suddenly, Last Summer has a deliriously brilliant plot, focusing on lobotomy, incest, homosexuality, and cannibalism (it miraculously avoided censorship on its release). Elizabeth Taylor shines as the rebellious heroine Catherine, imprisoned in a mental asylum by her wicked aunt Violet (Katherine Hepburn). As the sympathetic Dr. Cukrowicz (Montgomery Clift) comes to her rescue, Catherine gradually reveals the shocking truth of what really happened the previous summer.
