The Iron Giant (U)

5 September - 6 September 2009

Cinema

Before he went on to make The Incredibles, Brad Bird took on the challenge of adapting Ted Hughes’ children’s book The Iron Man. Annie Hughes is worried about putting supper on the table for herself and her imaginative nine-year-old son, Hogarth. When a local fisherman tells tales about a huge metal man falling into the sea, Hogarth sets out to find the enormous robot. What he does find is an iron giant with an insatiable appetite for metal and a childlike curiosity about its new world.

With rumour spreading through the town, Hogarth turns to his friend, the Iron Giant, to save the town’s residents from their own fears and prejudices. In times like these, you really find out what your friends are made of…sometimes, it’s even metal.
