Pre-Opera Talk with Andrew Roger: Ernani

Sat 25 February

Meeting Room

Join us for a pre-opera talk with Andrew Roger, tutor of Opera Appreciation courses at Dundee University.

Andrew will provide an introduction to the evening’s performance, discussing its history, composer, notable productions and key highlights.

"Like last season's Trovatore, Verdi's Ernani is an opera which moves at a fast and furious pace. Although only Verdi's 5th opera, it has been said that it is 'graced with more melody than most composers managed in a lifetime'. It requires four top-class voices, and each role is littered with memorable tunes. Not until the Duke in Rigoletto did Verdi create such a major tenor role again. Look out for three great solos, superb trios, a rousing martial chorus and a thunderous ensemble, Verdi's greatest before Trovatore. It makes for an exciting evening in the theatre!" - Andrew

Tea and coffee will be served. Talk lasts until 30 minutes before the opera is due to start. Tickets are £5 per person – book now on 01382 909900.
