25 April 2018

As the 2017-18 series of opera broadcasts live from the Metropolitan Opera in New York draws to a close, it's time to look ahead to a new season. With ten more stunning performances on the way, we can't wait for October.

The new season will begin in high style in October with Aida, starring Anna Netrebko. Roberto Alagna and Elina Garanca take the title roles in Saint-Saens’ Samson et Dalila, while Jonas Kaufmann and Eva-Marie Westbroek saddle up for Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West. Nico Muhly’s 2011 adaptation of Marnie gets a new production; as do Verdi’s La Traviata, with Diana Damrau as Violetta; and Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur, in a production by David McVicar and starring Anna Netrebko. The season moves into 2019 with Bizet’s Carmen, in which Clementine Margaine will reprise her signature role opposite Roberto Alagna; followed by Donizetti’s La Fille du RégimentAn all-star cast including Stuart Skelton and Eva-Marie Westbroek assembles for Wagner’s Die Walküre in March, before the season ends in May with Poulenc’s masterwork Dialogues des Carmélites.
