Create Like Corita

20 April 2020

Our Learning team are back for Monday Makes with an easy and fun activity inspired by the work of Sister Corita Kent.

the dark (1983), Sister Corita Kent

An artist, illustrator and educator, Sister Corita Kent was one of the most innovative and unusual pop artists of the 1960s. As well as creating her own prints that combined slogans and poetry, she also organised nuns and students to make ambitious installations, processions and banners, revolutionised graphic design and encouraged the creativity of thousands of people. Corita has been a huge influence on our Learning team and her work appeared in our galleries as part of There Will Be New Rules Next Week back in 2013.

Download our step-by-step instuctions to Create Like Corita and have a go at home. Once you're done, snap a photo of your artwork and share using #DCAmakes so we can see it and share.

Need a bit more inspiration before you get started? Take a look at these artworks by Corita or head here find out more about this amazing American artist and see more of her work.

If you enjoy this activity and you're able to, we'd be so grateful if you'd consider donating to help us keep enriching people's lives through art, culture and creativity. Thank you!
