We are particularly excited to bring you Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as well as the hotly-anticipated blockbusters Little Women, 1917 and The Personal History of David Copperfield. By popular request, DCA is hosting a one-night-only screening of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, plus we’re screening war satire Jojo Rabbit by New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi.

DCA continues to highlight great films from around the world, and this winter sees the Fokus: Films from Germany series return, as well as two great titles from East Asia – the romantic visual spectacle of Long Day’s Journey into Night from China, and stunning new anime Weathering with You from Japan.

There’s also another fantastic collaboration with V&A Dundee to look forward to. Our Hello, Robot. season explores the complex relationships between human and machine with sci-fi classics including The Terminator, Metropolis and Wall-E.

All this plus performance screenings, our final BFI Musical Top Hat, family fun with Frozen II and much more!

The Guide is introduced by our Head of Cinema, Alice Black:

As we say goodbye to 2019 and hello to 2020, this is a good chance to reflect and look forward. There have been so many wonderful cinema experiences over the past year that we’ve enjoyed sharing with you, and I am delighted to report that what is coming up is just as exciting. No matter what turmoil there is in the world around us, DCA will continue to offer a safe cinema harbour, showing films which will provoke, inspire, and make you laugh. Some of them (we’re looking at you Taika Waititi) do all three at once!

Alongside all the new releases, Fokus returns to Dundee. Organised by Filmhouse and the Goethe Institute, this showcase of contemporary German cinema is a treasure trove of some of the most exciting feature films and documentaries to come out of the country in the past year. We continue our partnership with our neighbours, V&A Dundee, to bring you some wonderful films inspired by their current exhibition, Hello, Robot. From Fritz Lang’s iconic Metropolis to Jacques Tati’s struggles with kitchen appliances in Mon Oncle and from Spike Jonze’s heartbreaking AI romance Her to Arnie’s iconic anti-hero in The Terminator, robots have long been an important part of cinema storytelling.

Lastly, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you and all your loved ones a wonderful holiday period. We will be closed on 25 – 26 December and 1– 2 January but otherwise we are open as usual and always happy to see you! To echo the wise words of Fred Astaire in Top Hat (Saturday 28 December at DCA), it really doesn't matter if the skies are grey, as long as we can be with you, it's a lovely day.

PS. For everyone who has asked: We will be showing Parasite and The Lighthouse – we are waiting for them to be released in the UK!

We look forward to seeing you at the cinema soon. Don't forget to tell us which films you're enjoying using the hashtag #helloDCA - you could win free cinema tickets!
