Alongside Discovery Film Festival we have latest new releases, world cinema and documentary films, as well as engaging film events with Q&A opportunities and of course, our annual DUNDEAD Halloween selection - lots of tricks and lots of treats.

The Guide is introduced by our Head of Cinema, Alice Black:

"Behind the scenes throughout the year, we’ve been on a quest to find the very best new international films for young audiences to include in our Discovery Film Festival. This is the exciting moment when we can finally unveil the public programme to you. Over three weeks, festival producer Mike Tait, the Discovery Young Ambassadors and our team of fantastic volunteers will be welcoming thousands of pupils, teachers and families into our cinemas for these special screenings. From around the globe, these films are wonderful examples of how cinema can offer a fresh perspective on what it means to be a young person today. They’ve inspired us to understand and engage with the concerns and dreams of this future generation. Please join us!

October also brings another annual fixture in our cinema calendar – Dundead’s Halloween extravaganza! This year’s offering is a vintage one – we’ll be channelling our inner Vincent Price with William Castle’s wonderfully eccentric The Tingler, breaking out our 80s fashions with The Lost Boys, and soaking up the Nordic atmosphere with a personal favourite of mine (one of the first films I ever selected for DCA cinema) the Swedish vampire film Let The Right One In.

There are several exciting Q&A events coming up in this guide that you will definitely want to put into your diaries. Working in partnership with Take One Action and Festival of the Future, we will be hosting a sneak preview of Ken Loach’s Sorry We Missed You and the vital new documentary Scheme Birds. New Scottish filmmaking also continues to go from strength to strength and we are delighted to welcome the creative talent behind Connect and Harry Birrell Presents to introduce their work and answer your questions. These conversations around cinema are something we love having and we are proud at how enthusiastically you, our audience, engage with them. Together, we are putting Dundee on the map as a destination filmmakers love to visit!"

We look forward to seeing you at the cinema soon. Don't forget to tell us which films you're enjoying using the hashtag #helloDCA - you could win free cinema tickets!
