New Films from Friday 5 August

5 August 2022

We've got another week of great cinema lined up for you at DCA.

New Iranian film Hit The Road is a beautifully-observed, achingly tender film which doesn’t shy away from the complicated political landscape of life in contemporary Iran.

We have two documentaries to choose from this week: Fire of Love, the story of French scientists Katia and Maurice Krafft, who captured some of the most spectacular imagery ever recorded of their greatest passion: volcanoes, and Blind Ambition, which follows four sommeliers as they travel to France to enter the World Wine Tasting Championship.

Anime Fortune Favours Lady Nikuko is about an unconventional family and the bonds that they share in their sleepy seaside town.

Our Kino Dreams: Wim Wenders Retrospective continues with the unconventional road movie Paris, Texas and a look at a group of legendary Cuban musicians under the banner of Buena Vista Social Club.

Plus, there is still time to see The Railway Children Return and we’ve added a further two encore screenings of NT Live: Prima Facie!

Here's more from DCA's Cinema Team:

"This week two extraordinary cinematic road trips lead our programme. Along with a chance to see Wim Wenders’ beloved Paris, Texas back on the big screen, we’re thrilled to be screening new Iranian film Hit The Road, directed by Panah Panahi, son of celebrated film-maker Jafar Panahi.

Hit The Road has been described as a “Persian Little Miss Sunshine” and is a funny and beautiful road trip through the Iranian countryside that is equal parts heart-warming and heart-breaking. With the elder Panahi being arrested for his out-spoken critique of the Iranian regime, this truly special film couldn’t be more timely.
