Dundee's comic connections
Ahead of our special screening of Futureshock! The Story of 2000AD, we spoke to Dr Chris Murray, the University of Dundee's senior comics studies lecturer.
2000AD is most famous for introducing Judge Dredd to the world, a character that comic artist Dan McDaid has recently worked on. At this special Future Shock! screening, he and Montynero - who worked for 2000AD - will discuss how they first discovered the comic, as readers, and also give an insight into their experiences now as comic creators. Chris Murray, who lectures in film and comic studies, will introduce the film and answer questions about the history of comics in the city.
In 1977, IPC Magazines began publishing 2000AD, a science-fiction comic that would change the face of the industry. This documentary offers an illuminating overview of the magazine’s history: a funny, moving and passionate chronicle of how a disparate band of talented eccentrics came together to create something both visionary and extraordinary.
