Another Round
(Druk)

Thomas Vinterberg

In their first collaboration since 2012’s Oscar-nominated The Hunt, Thomas Vinterberg reunites with actor Mads Mikkelsen for Another Round, a film that ranks among each man’s best, most memorable work.

“Mads Mikkelsen delivers a touching, note-perfect performance”

Once the brightest teacher at his high school, middle-aged Martin (Mikkelsen) has fallen into a definite funk. He’s barely present in his classes — the students even attempt an intervention — and at home, his marriage is slowly crumbling.  On a night out with his three closest friends, teetotaller Martin is cajoled into drinking along with them. Unable to share their passions either at work or at home, the men embark on an audacious experiment inspired by an obscure philosopher: to see if a constant level of alcohol in their blood will help them find greater freedom and happiness. At first, they each find a newfound zest, but as the group pushes their experiment further, issues that have been simmering for years come to a head. The men are faced with a choice: reckon with their behaviour or continue on the same course.

Darkly comic, Vinterberg’s sharp script, co-written with regular collaborator Tobias Lindholm (The Investigation), uses this bold premise to explore the complexities of growing older.  A great ensemble cast of familiar Danish faces (Lars Ranthe, Magnus Millang, Thomas Bo Larsen) is anchored by the always astonishing Mads Mikkelsen, who delivers a touching, note-perfect performance – including one of his most graceful and memorable onscreen moments to date.
