Jackie Smith

This is a free event and does not require booking

Open Daily: 11:00 - 18:00
Open late Thu 20:00

A short run exhibition of prints and an animation by artist Jackie Smith.

Originally from South Wales, Jackie Smith completed her Masters in Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee. Since then she has worked mainly with print, photography and digital imaging and has had a long association with DCA Print Studio.

Speaking about the works in Flashy, Jackie says "drawing using your eyes is not an intuitive process; it requires new learning to consciously control how quickly the eyes are moving. Eye movements, mainly, are in a series of jumps called saccades between points of fixation. Drawings are made through constructing a series of straight lines of varying lengths, combined to create shapes. When I first learnt to use the Eye Can Draw tracker I made drawings which had a certain jerky quality. In this piece I have deliberately used this quality to make symbols which represent flashes of light referring both to the manner in which the drawings were made - moving a projected cursor across a screen, and to observations of how light falls in different circumstances."
