Joan of Arc
(Jeanne)

Bruno Dumont

Bruno Dumont's second film about the historical heroine premiered in the Un Certain Regard sidebar in Cannes earlier this year.

"Peppered with lip-synched musical numbers..."

Adapted once again from the early 20th century theatrical works of French writer and poet Charles Peguy, this second instalment sees the self-possessed Lise Leplat Prudhomme reprising her lead role. Peppered with lip-synched musical numbers composed by French rocker Christophe, Jeanne follows the legend through her different battles against the English in 1429 on to her capture, trial and eventual execution only two years later.

This eccentric, semi-musical follow-up earned Dumont a special mention by the Un Certain Regard jury at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
