La Vie en Rose

Olivier Dahan

Marion Cotillard won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her bruising, charismatic performance in this 2007 film which tells the real-life story of French music icon Edith Piaf.

"A stirring tribute to a truly talented, troubled soul."

The film’s structure flits back and forth, from present to past, as it relates to us Piaf’s chaotic life filled with heartbreak, showmanship and plenty of booze. Cotillard’s defiant performance becomes the core around which La Vie en Rose revolves, and the film has an uncanny ability to make the audience feel like one of Piaf’s retinue of friends, family and lovers.

With committed performances (particularly from Sylvie Testud as Piaf’s best friend Mômone) and wonderfully detailed production design, La Vie en Rose is a stirring tribute to a truly talented, troubled soul. Best of all, we're lucky enough to be screening this film in wonderful 35mm.

Screening as part of our #DCA20 birthday festivities - see any two films in the selection for the price of one when you book together!
