One Note at a Time

Renée Edwards

The multiple award-winning feature documentary One Note at a Time is set in New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, where the music stopped in 2005 when one of the most deadly and destructive hurricanes in American history struck.

Many displaced musicians felt compelled to return to the chaos and bleak confusion to play again. This is the story of some who made it back, told in their own words, with those who fought alongside to resuscitate the music scene; in particular, a unique medical facility with the motto ‘Keeping the music ALIVE’.

Featuring Clarke Peters, Dr John, Kermit Ruffins, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Irma Thomas, Hot 8 Brass Band and final interviews and performances from the late Walter Payton Jr, Wardell Quezergue, Herman ‘Roscoe’ Ernest III and ‘Uncle’ Lionel Batiste.

We are proud to bring you this screening as part of Dundee Jazz Festival, a celebration of live jazz, blues, soul, funk and more, across a selection of Dundee's most beloved venues. Check out www.jazzdundee.co.uk for the full programme, or follow on Facebook for all the latest updates.
