From Danny Philippou & Michael Philippou, the Australian directors behind the hit Talk to Me, comes Bring Her Back – and the brothers have lost none of their energy or their ability to deliver shocking moments of visceral horror.

Just as Talk to Me centred on a young family dynamic, so does Bring Her Back.  A teenage brother and sister (newcomers Billy Barratt and Sora Wong) uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother, played by Sally Hawkins. The Oscar-nominee is brilliantly cast here in a sinister twist on a familiar ditzy persona we’ve seen her play before.

The brothers are part of a wave of horror filmmakers who draw horror, the lives of young people and screen images together. Talk to Me had live-streamed possessions, and with Bring Her Back there is some spectacularly disturbing VHS footage. The Philippous are also experts at using sound for horror; see it in the cinema with an audience, and powerful surround sound.
