Dundead: Bulk + Q&A with Ben Wheatley

When an over zealous scientist pushes his experiments with string theory too far, his brane explodes. That’s “brane” not “brain” - but that means someone has to sort out the mess he has created.
Our hero Corey Harlan (Sam Riley) is sent in kicking and screaming to find the heart of the brane and its creator Anton Chambers. Now manifested as a normal townhouse hosted by the enigmatic and multi-dimensional Aclima, his adventure begins. A house where opening a door from one room to another can lead you to other worlds not just the kitchen. Echoing the fate of our protagonists, the very fabric of the film - the sets and even the cameras are deconstructed throughout.
Shot in secret with a small cast, this is a mind-bending sci-fi thriller in the tradition of Quatermass, Alphaville and Primer, but it is also a love letter to film writing and making. The movie reflects its director’s obsession with the magic of visual effects from early cinema pioneer Georges Méliès to the stop-motion creatures created by Ray Harryhausen
Ben Wheatley is one of contemporary British cinema’s most distinctive and idiosyncratic voices. Films like Kill List and A Field in England are thrilling and incisive and really push at the boundaries of genre in fascinating ways.
