Starve Acre

Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark (who blew horror audiences away with her performance in 2019’s Saint Maud) star in this stylish and haunting adaptation of Andrew Michael Hurley's folk horror novel. 

In 1970s rural Yorkshire, Richard (Smith) and Juliette (Clark) Willoughby’s seemingly idyllic family life is thrown into turmoil when their young son Owen starts acting out of character. Smith is excellent as the taciturn yet complicated Richard, but Clark perhaps steals the show with another intense, brittle, almost painful performance as Juliette. Director Daniel Kokotajlo creates a stifling, claustrophobic atmosphere, and the period touches and set dressing are evocative throughout.
