Dundead Opening Film: Sting (UK Premiere)

We're opening this year's festival with the UK premiere of spider-horror Sting.
Stranger Things meets Eight-Legged Freaks in this funny and likably old-school creature feature from Australian director Kiah Roache-Turner (director of 2014 cult favourite Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead).
Charlotte (Alyla Browne) is a precocious 12-year-old who lives with her mother, her mother’s boyfriend, her baby brother … and her pet spider, Sting. But Sting has a voracious appetite and seems to be growing at an alarming rate.
There’s a Spielbergian quality to Charlotte and Sting’s relationship, along with winky references throughout to the likes of Alien and Predator. And with Sting being brought to life by the legendary Weta Workshop, there's also a great mix of CGI and practical effects on display.
Roache-Turner keeps things nicely straightforward, eschewing grand themes for the enticing promise of a monster spider running amok in a Brooklyn apartment building – if you thought John McClane was the last word on air vents, think again, and the Home Alone-style finale is good, silly fun.

- Log into / create your DCA account.
- Add all the films your want to see to your basket (pick 12 for a Full Pass, including the Dundead Opening Film, and six for a Half Pass).
