A queer, feminist glitterpunk subversion of the Conan the Barbarian character, She is Conann is a spectacular and stylish epic that transgresses time, space and genres.

The latest film from cult director Bertrand Mandico, She is Conann blazes with visual imagination and is unlike anything else you’re likely to see this year. With a predominantly female cast, the film tells the story of Conann’s life, a tale of barbarism and poetry, of love and death. 

Conann is played by a variety of different actresses as she and the film progress through time. She is joined for most of this journey by a strange, swaggering, leather-jacketed dog-faced demon called Rainer – a nice role for actress Elina Löwensohn, who genre fans may know as the title character in the 1994 cult classic vampire film Nadja. 

Cool, violent, romantic, arthouse, this is a film which, like Conann herself, contains multitudes and feels like a cult classic in the making.
