A season of creativity at DCA

Join us for some exciting events across our building.

We're excited to announce a programme of creative events across our building as we prepare to close our galleries for critical refurbishment.

With the close of Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood on Sun 13 July, our galleries will begin a ten-week closure period in order to undergo a vital upgrade to lighting, windows and blinds, generously funded by Dundee City Council.

During this time all other parts of our building will remain open and we've planned a series of events, exhibitions and activity, making sure that there will be plenty for you to see and do when you visit.

Shopping events

With our annual festive market, CRAFTED, on hiatus for 2025, we're instead bringing you two exciting events that will allow you to buy work by local makers while also encountering their processes up close.

CRAFTED: Show Your Work will take place on Sat 26 July and is an opportunity to buy items from makers while also getting a behind-the-scenes insight into the processes and techniques used in their work.

On Sat 9 and Sun 10 August, CRAFTED: Ceramics Showcase will bring together makers working with clay in its many forms, with work to purchase alongside demos and creative activities for you to try.

Artworks on the walls in Centrespace for the Made in DCA Print Studio Exhibition

Artwork made in DCA

Join us for two exhibitions in Centrespace to browse and buy artworks made onsite in our Print Studio.

From Mon 25 - Sun 31 August, Dundee Print Collective 10 will showcase ten years of Dundee Print Collective (DPC), an artist-led printmaking collective whose members have been making work in DCA Print Studio since 2014. Artists featured in the exhibition will include Eddie Summerton, Delia Baillie, Jonny Lyons, Miguel Bustos, Whimsicallush and Pamela Scott, with works available to purchase from £35.

Then in September, our annual showcase of works made by Registered Users of our Print Studio will return for its longest show to date. Our Made in DCA Print Studio Exhibition will take place from Sat 20 September – Sun 5 October and will feature works made using a range of printmaking techniques, from screen printing to etching and lithography, all of which will be available to purchase.

Digital activity

In August, a series of events will highlight creativity in digital technology, celebrating the city’s excellence in this field.

Sat 30 August will see the return of Drop in and Play, our popular gaming event presented in partnership with Ninja Kiwi. Local games developers will present new and in-progress work that you can come along and test out, including a showcase of games created for Abertay University’s DARE Academy game design competition.

There will also be a new opportunity to try VR experiences, plus a week-long residency from Dundee-based Biome Collective who will be exploring playful ways to engage with our building.

Family activity

Throughout our gallery closure period, Create Space will remain open with free, creative activities for all ages.

Some of these will be based on the work of local illustrator Kate Benzie, whose Dundee-themed illustrations will also be the focus of a participatory project on the ground floor of the building, where families will be able to add their own components to a large Dundee cityscape.

Unfolding ‘Correspondent’

The final event before our galleries reopen is a new exhibition in Centrespace led by local independent curator Katherine Murphy.

Unfolding ‘Correspondent’ is a multi-layered curatorial initiative that critically responds to our 2024/25 exhibitions programme. Bringing together artists, curators, and writers from a range of disciplines and backgrounds, the project invites creative responses to the themes emerging from the exhibitions and to the overarching theme of ‘Correspondent’.

Our galleries will reopen in October with a major solo exhibition by artist and DJCAD graduate Lauren Gault. This solo exhibition marks the first show in a Scottish institution for the artist in over a decade, with new commissions in sculpture and print, the latter facilitated through a production residency in our Print Studio.
