New films from Fri 28 August

See what's on, including Kiki's Delivery Service, Trainspotting, The Dog Stars and more

Variety is the stuff of magic this week at DCA Cinema, with a Studio Ghibli classic, electrifying new releases and the 30th anniversary of a landmark of British cinema.

Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved Kiki’s Delivery Service is screening in newly restored 4K, and we’re showing this family favourite in both subtitled and dubbed versions.

The grown-ups can also celebrate 30 years of choosing life, an all-time-great soundtrack and the worst toilet in Scotland, as Danny Boyle’s iconic Trainspotting screens in a brand new 4K restoration. Ridley Scott returns to sci-fi with post-apocalyptic fable The Dog Stars, and indie legend Gregg Araki is back after a 12 year absence with provocative comedy I Want Your Sex.

Elsewhere, our Sculpting in Time: Andrei Tarkovsky season closes with the unforgettable The Sacrifice and another screening of Mirror, Alchemy Film & Arts bring their touring moving image programme to DCA, and there are more chances to catch last week’s audience favourites: Anthony Bourdain biopic Tony and horror sensation Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Plus: your applause led to an encore for David Byrne’s American Utopia.
