Introducing our new Head of Exhibitions

We're delighted to announce that Dan Brown has been appointed as Head of Exhibitions.

Dan currently holds the position of Curator of Research at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, where he has worked on projects including Dancing a Peripheral Quadrille - Ashanti Harris; Tense - Adam Lewis Jacob; The Darling Newhaven Residency, facilitating cultural exchange between Edinburgh and Montréal, and Ukraine Reimagined, an international collaboration supporting Ukraine's cultural sector and providing new platforms for Ukrainian artists and creatives in the UK.

His previous roles include Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the National Galleries of Scotland and Visual Arts Advisor to both the Scottish Arts Council (2009–2011) and Creative Scotland.

Dan served as Co-Director of the artist-run Embassy Gallery from 2006 to 2008 and is a co-founder of the Shift/Work programme, a participatory research initiative aimed at recalibrating artistic learning to foster new knowledge.

He has worked internationally, having organised exhibitions, projects, and events in Germany, Argentina, Iceland, and India. He has also undertaken residencies in New York and Buenos Aires.

Dan's academic contributions include articles for journals, conference papers, and exhibition essays, with research focusing on the development of Scotland’s art sector from 1967 to the present and the contemporary politics of historic public art. He holds an MFA in Fine Art from Edinburgh College of Art (2004 - 2006) and a BA Hons in Fine Art from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (2000 - 2004).

He will take up his role in October 2025.
