Who's your favourite Toy Story toy?
As Toy Story 5 hits our screens, we talk about our favourite characters. Who's your favourite?
Woody, Buzz and the gang are back for an exciting new adventure in Toy Story 5, showing now at DCA Cinema! To celebrate, we asked the DCA team which toys are their favourites…

Everybody loves Woody…
Woody is my favourite character. He's the beating heart of the films. He can also be mean, petty, insecure and jealous but still we are with him every step of the way. He is afforded more growth and complexity across the first film's brisk 81 minutes than many live action characters. Pixar knew the limits of their technology with the first Toy Story, and the decision to make toys the subject of the first computer animated feature ever made was a stroke of genius. Woody's loose limbs give lots of opportunity for slapstick comedy but also make his softness seem vulnerable next to the ultra-macho hard plastic of Buzz Lightyear. Throw in what is quite comfortably Tom Hanks' best performance and there's no contest for me.
– Michael, Cinema Programmer
My favourite is also Woody, largely being Tom Hanks voice, is like a warm comfort blanket. I like the way Woody handles the relentless challenges and choices in life, because he often gets them wrong but learns from his mistakes. I was 8 when Toy Story came out, and I couldn’t event tell you how many times I have watched the film, all 4 of them in fact, but there is a real constant comfort from Woody. I am so excited to be taking my 6 year old to see Toy Story 5 at the cinema, and hope the film offers the same enjoyment to her as they have for me.

… but you can't beat Buzz
Buzz. Maybe an obvious choice but I think his journey in each film is so powerful, as he learns some of life’s most important lessons about leadership, acceptance, friendship, romance and letting go.
– Beth, DCA Director
I have a very soft spot for Buzz, he becomes more 'human' in each iteration.
– Sarah, Head of Learning
Jessie is a DCA team favourite
Toy Story 2 is obviously the best in the series so far. Not just because of the ultra-satisfying Woody repair scene, but because of everyone's favourite cowgirl Jessie. I had my very own Jessie doll, complete with matching red hat and spent a great deal of time tip-toeing into my bedroom to see if I could catch her coming to life.
– Olivia, Discovery Film Festival Coordinator
My favourite character has to be Jessie and Bullseye but a special shout out to Slinky and Barbie.
– Lana, Visitor Assistant
Are we allowed to like the baddies?
Fully agree that Toy Story 2 is the best, but that's largely due to the fact that this is where Evil Emperor Zurg gets the most screentime! With the Disney Wiki listing his likes as "Defeating Buzz Lightyear (formerly) and catching up with his son" and legendary quotes like "If you want something turned evil, turn it evil yourself. That's what Nana Zurg always used to say to me, and she was pretty evil" – what's not to love about a diabolical villain who's also a family man?
– Samuel, Visitor Services Manager
Rogue take but mine is Lotso, Toy Story 3 was the first in the franchise I remember watching and he reminded me of my teddy bear! Wasn't fun when he turned out evil but everyone has their own flaws .

You're all wrong; Hamm is the correct answer
Forky is my absolute favourite – sometimes I too get stressed and try to throw myself in the bin. Who hasn't?
