Paid placement opportunity with DCA Young Filmmakers: Stop Motion Animation Week
14 days (7hrs a day)
Dundee Contemporary Arts is one of Scotland's leading contemporary art organisations and aims to enrich people's lives through culture, creativity and art through our four programme strands: Exhibitions, Cinema, Print Studio and Learning.
We currently have a paid placement opportunity with DCA Young Filmmakers: stop motion animation week. The deadline for applications is 12 noon on 28 August 2026.
Role Overview
This paid placement at Dundee Contemporary Arts offers the opportunity to work with professional film makers and educators in supporting the delivery of a programme of stop motion animation filmmaking with young people aged 15 -18.
As well as learning about the wider requirements and considerations for creating a learning programme for young people, the paid placement will participate in, support and learn from the stop motion filmmaking programme which includes:
- exploring the range of skills required to make a short, handmade animated film
- watching a selection of animated shorts and learning about how these films were made
- working on pre-production to develop a story in groups
- making sets and preparing props
- shooting a sequence, including using equipment and lighting
- exploring elements of post-production, including editing and sound/foley work
- film careers talk
A key role for the paid placement will be to support collaborative working skills, good communication and collective decision making.
This is an ideal opportunity for those with an interest in filmmaking, film education, youth work and stop motion animation in particular while developing valuable professional skills in a dynamic arts environment.
The paid placement will be managed by DCA Learning team.
This opportunity is funded by Screen Scotland as part of DCA Young Filmmakers: stop motion animation 2026.
The dates for the placement will be between 5 October and 8 November..

Interviews will take place on Tue 8 and Wed 9 September 2026. The questions will be circulated in advance of the interview.
