Labyrinth
David Bowie gives one of his most memorable performances as the Goblin King in Jim Henson’s fantasy classic, set in a world of magic, goblins and fantastic creatures.
In one of her first roles, Jennifer Connelly plays Sarah, a teenager who must venture into the tricksy world of the Labyrinth to save her baby brother from the villainous clutches of Bowie’s Goblin King. But in the world of the Labyrinth, nothing is what it seems, and Sarah will meet many fantastical friends and foes alike on her journey.
Co-written by Monty Python’s Terry Jones, Labyrinth is one of only a few features directed by Muppets head honcho Jim Henson and is packed with spectacular puppets from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Many of these puppets also get in on the musical numbers; along with Trevor Jones’ whimsical score, Bowie contributed five tunes to the soundtrack, including the wonderfully daft “Magic Dance”.
