Dundead: Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (35mm)
Jane Schoenbrun's Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is back and this time it's showing on glorious 35mm.
After making a splash at our 2022 Dundead Festival with We're All Going to the World's Fair and lighting up our screens with the dazzling I Saw the TV Glow in 2024, director Jane Schoenbrun brought us a new twist on horror earlier this year with Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.
Hannah Einbinder (from TVs Hacks) stars alongside the one and only Gillian Anderson in this metaslasher that delves into horror reboots, remakes and franchise filmmaking. After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director (Einbinder) for resurrection. But when she visits the original’s star (Anderson), a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.
With it's snowy cabin scenes, December is the perfect time to revisit this horror hit. Whether you missed it in the cinema the first time round or you want to see it again on the big screen, don't miss this chance to see it projected from film. I am very happy to say Jane Schonebrun’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is very good. For me, it takes the director’s cinematic language into new territories while condensing and enriching an entire cinema culture. It’s funny, it’s cool and it is perhaps even a little more ruthless than Schoenbrun’s previous films.Michael Coull Dundead Programmer
