Create beautiful hardcover books that you could use as a gift or keep for yourself.

Learn how to construct hardcovers using board, book cloth and papers decorated in class using Suminagashi, a Japanese marbling technique. You will then combine these elements to create beautiful hardcover books that can be used as journals or scrapbooks.

Need to know

  • What to bring

We provide everything you'll need, just bring yourself. You are welcome to bring along any inspiration, images or sketchbooks to work from.

 

  • What to wear

We'll provide aprons and gloves but recommend wearing old clothes as printmaking can be messy. Please note that open-toed footwear and sandals are not allowed.

 

  • Food & drinks

A sealed water flask or drinking vessel is permitted but other food and drinks are not allowed in the studio.

Emma Fraser

Emma Fraser is an artist and bookbinder based in Scotland. At DCA she teaches bookbinding workshops and advises on book related matters in the Print Studio. As an accredited Book Conservator she runs the Book & Paper Studio, a small conservation practice in Dundee.
