Artist's Choice Screening: Wish You Were Here

Duration: 1h28m
Dates: Mon 14 Sep

Selected by France-Lise McGurn as one of her Artist's Choice Screenings that accompany The Charm Offensive in DCA Galleries

Emily Lloyd gives a breakthrough performance as Lynda, a tearaway 16-year-old who lives with her hairdresser father and her “boring bloody sister” on the South Coast of England in the early 1950s. Starved of affection since the death of her mother, Lynda soon learns that she can attract the attention she so desperately needs by shocking those around her.

The film follows her hazardous journey through adolescence and takes a nostalgic look at 1950's England. It also links the past with the present and shows that, when it comes to affairs of the heart, we have little to guide us but the ignorance and prejudice of successive generations.
