Dundead Film Festival 2026

Thu 7 - Sun 10 May

Celebrate horror, cult and weird cinema at the 14th edition of our Dundead festival.

We're bringing you four days of terrifying premieres, blood filled vintage titles and bone-chilling contemporary classics, and this year we're not doing it alone. We're very excited to be collaborating with archive activist feminist collective Invisible Women for this year's retrospective strand: She’s a Maneater! Cannibalism, Consumption and Carnal Appetites

Invisible Women have curated this programme of six repertory horror films which feature women willing to go to terrifying extremes to satisfy their insatiable appetites. They say:

Bloodsuckers, flesheaters and nymphomaniacs: horror cinema has long traded on a primal fear of uncontained female appetites. Afterall, in a world where women’s desire for food, sex and capital has been fiercely policed by patriarchal social norms, what could be scarier than a hungry woman?

Alongside this special part of the programme, we've also got two UK premieres and four Scottish premieres, all selected by Dundead Programmer Michael Coull. Get ready for supernatural scares, creepy coming-of-age tales, kitsch horror comedy and exciting new voices in genre.

DCA Members and Supporters get early access to tickets from Tue 24 March with the festival opening for general sale on Fri 27 March at 10:00. Immerse yourself in all 12 films with a Full Pass or pick six titles to see with a Half Pass. Each pass comes with some Dundead merch featuring our festival logo designed by Glasgow-based illustrator Agnes Xantippa Boman which celebrates She's a Maneater!. DCA Members and 18-25 Members get discounts on festival passes. All passes can be booked here.

She’s a Maneater! Cannibalism, Consumption and Carnal Appetites

Follow Invisible Women on a wild ride which takes in a broad spectrum of female-authored and women-centred horror, from boundary-pushing arthouse, to reclaimed cult classics, to outrageous B movie provocations. These are bold, sometimes brazen films, yet beneath the gory spectacle they also offer a blood-stained critique of contemporary life, exploring themes such as aging, women’s bodies, consumerism, and “deviant” sexuality with guts and gusto. From vengeful goddesses to urbane vampires, fading starlets to mad scientists, these villainesses and anti-heroines hold up a cracked mirror to the absurdities of the female experience - leaving a trail of gore and destruction in their wake.

Petrifying Premieres

This selection of six brand-new scares includes two UK premieres and four Scottish premiers. Hand-picked by Dundead Programmer Michael Coull, these titles offer you the chance to see thought-provoking, campy and mysterious horror from across the world. Two of the films hail from Canada (which seems to be having a bit of a moment when it comes to genre filmmaking), with the other four coming from USA, Algeria, Spain and France.

Invisible Women

Founded in 2017, Invisible Women is an archive activist film collective based in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Berlin. They seek out and champion the work of women and filmmakers with marginalised identities who have been overlooked, un-credited or left out of the history of cinema. By drawing attention to these forgotten stories, they aim to reinsert female voices into the story of film.
