Three vampires with pointy ears surround a woman with a cross on her head

Silencio (Scottish Premiere)

Duration: 56m + 5m & 13m short films
Language: Spanish with English subtitles
Dates: Sun 10 May 2026 15:15

Part of Dundead Film Festival 2026. This film will be screening with two short films: Disease and The Dysphoria and will include a Q&A with Alex Masciotra-Milstein, director of Disease.

Eduardo Casanova’s generation-spanning vampire mini-epic is a camp visual tour de force, with phenomenal costume and prosthetic works and, in one standout moment, litres of fake blood.

Initially envisioned as a series, the film is split into three chapters, and it has been playing the festivals as a feature, a format that we think is to its benefit. Set across three different time periods, its nearly all female cast bring to life a fiercely queer tale of visual flamboyance, drugs, depressed and volatile vampires, the Aids crisis of the 1980s, an imagined near future, musical moments and more besides. It is a truly packed hour of content.

Transgressive and deliberately abrasive in places, Silencio is unafraid to present its characters as flawed and contradictory. It is a film which plays with the image of the vampire in pop culture, and while there are many metaphorical underpinnings to it all, there is also a beating (and bloodied) heart.

Disease (Scottish Premiere)

Director: Alex Masciotra-Milstein

Country: Canada

Year: 2025

Duration: 5m

Alex Masciotra-Milstein’s queer zombie love story is among the grisliest films in this year’s programme. With phenomenal practical effects designed by the director himself, it’s a brilliant example of what a filmmaker can do with five minutes.

The Dysphoria (Scottish Premiere)

Director: Kylie Aoibheann

Country: Australia

Year: 2025
Duration: 13m

Kylie Aoibheann’s award-winning short film is funny, creepy and incisive.

Desperate for gender-affirming surgery, a young transgender woman performs a Satanic ritual to get the vagina she’s always wanted… but she unwittingly invites a demonic presence into her home which demands a terrible sacrifice.
