Manhunter (40th Anniversary, 4K Restoration)
Michael Mann's classic thriller returns in 4K for its 40th anniversary. Brian Cox was the first actor to play Hannibal Lecter (Lecktor in this film) and delivered what many believe to be the best, most chilling portrayal of the erudite cannibal serial killer.
In retirement following a nervous breakdown, preternaturally gifted FBI profiler Will Graham (William Petersen, CSI) is persuaded by his former boss Jack Crawford (ex-cop turned actor Dennis Farina, Out of Sight) to hunt down a new serial killer terrorising the American South. Promising his wife Molly (Kim Griest, Brazil) to stay out of harm’s way, he warily investigates the man the press have dubbed the Tooth Fairy – due to his signature bite marks.
Graham decides that Dr. Hannibal Lecktor (the chilling Brian Cox), the high-IQ cannibal murderer and one-time psychiatrist who formerly attacked him, holds the key to solving the case. Visiting Lecktor in his high-security cell, Graham requests his insights.
But when the wardens discover a note from the Tooth Fairy in Lecktor’s affairs, it becomes clear that he is ensnaring his FBI counterpart in a deadly game.
Starring the late, great Tom Noonan (Synecdoche, New York) as Francis Dolarhyde, Joan Allen (The Bourne Supremacy) as Reba McClane, and Stephen Lang (Avatar) as Freddie Lounds, Manhunter stands with Heat, Thief, Collateral and The Insider as one of Mann's finest films in his Final Cut presented in 4K.
