Celebrate amazing animation at DCA this October
Aardman, Studio Ghibli, Scottish shorts and Laika hit our screens
It’s a huge month for animation at DCA cinema this October. From Scottish independent shorts and Aardman to Studio Ghibli and Laika, we are celebrating the very best of the artform with something for everyone.

Shaun the Sheep returns to our screens in The Beast of Mossy Bottom, as everyone’s favourite farm animal turns mad scientist to fix the damage done to their pumpkin patch…and things get out of control! Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom is our Bring a Baby screening on 15 October, and we have a Relaxed Screening on 12 October for visitors who would benefit from a more relaxed screening environment.
Aardman’s latest is a delightful family adventure that’s perfect for spooky season, and that’s not all.
With the beloved studio celebrating 50 Years of Clay, DCA is showing a range of classics on the big screen including The Wrong Trousers, Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and more. These beloved films will be available on our family deal, with all tickets £5.
Following our popular screenings of Kiki’s Delivery Service, we are delighted to be showing the new 4K restoration of Studio Ghibli’s 1995 anime Whisper of the Heart. Directed by Yoshifumi Kondō, the story of a creative young girl’s coming of age is a wonderful tribute to the power of storytelling and imagination, and it’s screening in both subtitled and dubbed versions. The dubbed version is our Bring a Baby screening on 22 October.
But it’s not all about throwbacks. Manipulate Arts presents its first ever “in competition” selection of Scottish short films as a celebration of Scotland’s vibrant and ever-evolving animation scene. From bold experimental works to imaginative worlds and thought-provoking social commentaries, each film reflects the creativity, technical skill, and distinctive voice of its maker. The screening will be followed by a Q&A, and Clanimation will host a free networking meet-up in the Greenmarket Room afterwards.
At the end of the month, we’re all looking forward to Laika’s Wildwood. This stop-motion epic has been years in the making and is the biggest scale film yet for the studio behind Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings. The story follows teenager Prue and she ventures into a dangerous magical realm of bandit kings, grieving witches, eagle generals, coyote armies and rabbit constables to rescue her baby brother. The voice cast includes Carey Mulligan, Mahershela Ali, Angela Bassett, Richard E. Grant and Awkwafina.
Wildwood will also be our Bring a Baby screening on 29th October.
