Bring a Baby: Logan Lucky

Steven Soderbergh

After Behind the Candelabra, director Steven Soderbergh announced he wouldn’t make another film, saying he was tired of the movie business. Thankfully for us, it seems he has had a change of heart and his retirement has instead become an extended hiatus which comes to an end with the arrival of Logan Lucky.

The Logans are a hardscrabble family from the hills of West Virginia, and their clan has been famous for its bad fortune for nearly 90 years. But the conniving Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) decides it’s time to turn the family's luck around, and with a little help from his brother Clyde (Adam Driver), the Redneck Robbers hatch a plan to steal several million from the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Not the brightest sparks in the toolbox, if this gang is going to succeed then they need expert help. Drafting in con-man and explosives expert Joe Bang (Daniel Craig) seems like the perfect solution, but first they are going to have to overcome a major obstacle: breaking their criminal mastermind pal out of prison.

Well versed in the heist genre, Soderbergh sets his latest caper far from the shiny, glamorous world of organised crime and casinos, and our heroes are definitely cut from a different cloth. Soderbergh has described Logan Lucky as ‘an anti-glam’ version of his Ocean’s trilogy, with characters who are just regular folks with nothing to lose in their risky reach for fortune.
